We at Kent Scientific Services are a UK Official Control Laboratory (OCL) and therefore we receive samples from Trading Standards, Environmental Health and Port Health Authorities as part of a legal process so these can be assessed against legislative limits and then dealt with accordingly. As such, we use Tentamus QTS Analytical as a secondary control laboratory for some of our pesticide work and they are only one of two commercial laboratories we use and trust to carry out such work. We have a long-standing relationship with QTS and have worked with them for many years. We have visited and audited the laboratory and trust the analytical results they produce which is key within the legal framework we operate. As well as the high-quality analytical work, they also offer a fast turnaround service, which is important when perishable goods are detained at seaports and airports. They always meet those deadlines and have courteous and knowledgeable staff who respond to email requests out of hours allowing constant communication which ensures that samples taken and detained on a weekend can be dealt with efficiently at the beginning of the working week without delay.

As I am essentially an independent technologist working with a number of independent businesses of a very diverse nature, I get to see QTS in a range of different lights & skill sets. Whether it be from the simple on-boarding process, to the expert advice regarding pesticides, micro, etc, or booking a series of tests, one get a professional, prompt & attentive reception. The team are always there to deal with queries & results are on time & to the required standard. The laboratory can deal with quite complex requests for collections & deliveries & will always update me on progress of collections, issues with collections, progress of tests & results, including any queries relating to results. Why did I opt for this laboratory? I found that others simply did not want to work with smaller businesses, simply because there was not the volume of work there to warrant the collections & effort to getting samples processed. With QTS & its associated labs, its a case of big enough to cope, but small enough to care. The other factor to consider is all our needs can be covered under one company by there having a range of laboratories in the UK to cope with everything from pesticide analysis to microbiological assessments & various water samples.
